Seed status

Beans, and another kind of beans, and corn,,,

and tomatillos too.

Expanding my garden

I pulled out my book from The Garden Guy and did a little research on what gets planted in July.

I also looked through all the seeds I purchased in Santa Fe, New Mexico and planted a few.

I am excited.  I am looking forward to learning more about gardening in AZ.

Leeks

My leek plants are growing a pod...  ??

Inside I think I see seeds...  I am on a mission to learn about leeks... I found this site .

I also found a gazillion videos about growing vegetables.  I am happy for the abundance of these free resources.

But I still don't know anything about seed pods that grow on leeks.

It's growing

The tomato plants has given me sweet tomatoes.

Parts of it are starting to dry up. I suppose the 100 plus heat can do that sort of thing.

The broccoli is also visible.  This is all so very interesting because I have never grown anything but tomatoes.

Grown with love

These are ready for preparation.

                            I am sorting through recipes in order to spice up (not literaly) our menus.

Progress

There is progress in the garden.

Lettuce.

Brocolli.

Spinach.

Breakfast

Some Saturday mornings I wake up in the mood for breakfast making.

The tomatoes from the garden were sauted in the bean mixture which also contains onions and garlic.

On the plate you find the cheese omelet, bacon, pears, avocado and the delicious bean misture.

Houston, there is fruit

Is the mystery solved? The remaining plant appears to be a watermelon plant. Or is it squash?

I was happy when I spotted this beauty. It was a really nice surprise. I was expecting to see only flowers.

And there is hope for more... Can't wait.

Still growing

My small garden is moving along...

I am still not sure what is growing.

They are growing

I went to a local nursery and asked if it was too late to grow anything in Arizona, being that temperatures now hover above 100.

I trust that when he said I could plant from seed things like squash, zucchini, cucumber, and melons, it was to be true. I hadn't researched what to plant in June/July.

I prepared my area, mixed in soil, lots of coffee grounds, and a bit of composting.
I placed my seeds in the ground and watered.

In a matter of 4 days I started seeing the little green things peeking from the ground.

I am inspired and want to have a better sense of what to do each month so I visited Barnes and Noble and came home with this book.

Home grown food

After much pondering... sometimes it takes some time for me to get a thought into action... I started clearing a spot and digging.

Got rid of some hard soil.

After softening it with lots of water.

Picked out some seeds.

Purchased the good soil.

Now I have to repair the main line of the sprinkler system that i apparently cut with one f my tools. There's a 78 cent gadget that should do the trick. I just have to summon up some bravery and get it fixed. More details to come.
